Isn’t life better when you enjoy what you love?
And you love what you do? Right? So this video is all about enjoying achieving what others suffer to fail so enjoy achieving what others suffer to fail when I’m thinking about this is when people start weight loss. You know, some people like are really into it they’re like, yeah, I’m going to the gym Yeah, I’m improving my diet. Yes, I’m increasing. I’m improving my culinary skills.
I’m getting a good night’s sleep. I have all this energy.
They have this really positive mindset. They’re embrace it and they feel great about it.
And who do you think’s more likely to succeed?
This person who’s like, really into the process and enjoying it? Or the person who’s like, “ah, Crap!” I need to eat better. Less chocolate, beer, stuff like that. God, I don’t want to go to the gym. I’m so tired. I don’t even want to look at what I’m eating. You know, like a food log. Are you kidding me? No, I’m not gonna do that crap.
So pretty, pretty obvious, right?
Who’s gonna have a better time? Who’s more likely to be successful the person with the positive mindset, right? So let’s just talk about a few reasons to be positive about this stuff.
So we’re going to be looking heavily at, at the S.T.A.N.D.-Up checklist again, so sleep training, awareness, NEPA and diet, how to do better at these things. And this is, this isn’t everything like I’m going to harp on about this over and over again. But this is not everything, this is the, what doesn’t change, these are going to be your habits.
This is going to be your baseline.
So what you can do once you have your baseline is in places you can boost. If you want to lose a bit of extra weight, you can do a little sprint and get a bit of extra weight loss. And if you have like a bad day, you know, you go to the bar stuff like that happens, you know the the baseline is going to keep you from just blowing up.
Okay, so the S.T.A.N.D.-Up checklist helps you helps establish your baseline.
And we need to get to green on our traffic lights here. Remember, so we’re probably at red or yellow and we want to get to green on this stuff. So this is a mindset video.
Let’s talk a little bit about sleep.
Okay, so which is better, waking up after four and a half hours asleep to an alarm. You can barely drag your ass out of bed, right? You’re like, God damn it, I have to go to work. And I’m just not in the mood. I don’t have time to even cook breakfast and stuff. I mean, you’re constantly sleep deprived, you’re in this place. I did this for close to a decade. Worst years of my life, depressed thought of killing myself regularly…
Life was just not good.
Because I was not rested while I was not sleeping enough. So we’re going to talk about sleep in detail. But now let’s look at the plus side. What happens like what are some reasons to get excited about sleep?
Well, first off, so people who sleep less end up eating more, so sleeping more is going to help your weight loss. And also essentially, if we look at this, we have I’m going to draw in gray here. But let’s try to draw Da Vinci’s vitruvian man here.
Okay, so we got some feet, we got some hands.
This is where all of your energy comes from. All right, physically, like literally all of the energy that you use is coming from your diet. That’s all those calories in, that’s the energy that you have to live life and so forth. So that’ll be diet. So this is all energy.
But there’s also repair, right?
So you got the calories in and they’re being used, and sleep helps you repair. Okay? So it repairs your body. It helps you consolidate memories. In other words, like there’s, there’s this like renewal cycle that happens every single day. It’s why we need to sleep every single night. And without that sleep, you don’t get the renewal, you don’t get the energy. You don’t consolidate the memories. It basically life is just crap when you’re not sleeping enough.
So if when you start sleeping more, you wake up, like that annoying fucker who’s like high on life without being high? Right? And they’re just like, man can’t wait. So a lot of people try to get through the day, right? And I think it was Jim Roan, who said, “Don’t get through the day. Get from the day.”
Take something out of it, like look forward to achieving something or doing something and a good night’s sleep is going to set you up for success because you’re going to wake up with energy ideally…
You wake up before your alarm because you’re rested.
You don’t need the alarm. Okay, you had a good night’s sleep. Wouldn’t that be amazing? You wake up, the alarm hasn’t gone off, you got time, your minds clear, you’re not dragging ass, and you have less stress. Okay, because we were sleep deprived, it’s also a lot more painful.
Any kind of stressor becomes compounded.
So just by improving your night’s sleep, literally, everything in life gets better.
So let’s try to improve our sleep training. So here we have energy from our sleep in our diet, when it comes to training and NEPA. What is that that’s kind of like the active, active component of weight loss where most people think, Wow, I’m being active, I’m going to get amazing results.
And guess what, this is actually the least important.
Okay, this active part where you’re like working really hard to get those results. That’s the least important thing like that is the worst use of your time. When you’re trying to lose weight. You want to get your diet in place, you want to get your sleep in place. You want to get your awareness in place, and then training enough become absolute last and they take the most time.
But let’s get excited about training.
So training you can either be, you know, in the bad camp, which is, you know, God I don’t want to go to the gym. I don’t want to drag my ass to the gym Do I have to get there? My goodness, if I don’t get there I’m going to blow up you know it’s you’re not looking forward to it’s going to be a grueling workout you’ve already tired you know you can have this negative mindset…
I haven’t been there for a long time. So it’s actually kind of hard for me to even relate I the gym is such a positive thing for me. And it is for a lot of people who get into it and get the right mindset and be become good at it.
So with training you want to be like Arnold Schwarzenegger.
If you’ve never seen the movie Pumping Iron, I highly recommend you go watch it. But he has this one line in the movie that was like super duper famous. And he’s like, “When I’m lifting the weights, it’s like I’m cumming. I’m cumming all the time.”
So he LOVES lifting weights, he absolutely gets into it and and of course there’s some prerequisites if you’re in pain if you don’t have proper technique and all that stuff’s not in order. It’s not going to be enjoyable, but will talk about that more later and how to get over those challenges.
So next up, we have awareness.
A lot of people here. So for sleep, let’s just say energy goes through the roof. So let’s have a house here. And it’s going to go through the roof training is like cumming all the time. So yeah, I’m totally going there. So this is what happens in men’s bathrooms, you see this kind of a thing? It’s great. And, yeah, if you’re a woman, you go into any men’s room, like if you’ve ever had a janitorial job or something, they’re all over the wall. But anyway, this is meant to be a good thing.
And then awareness.
A lot of people when it comes to awareness, are like I don’t want to love my food, What a drag and I totally get that. I’ve been there because I’ve logged my food for many, many, many years. Some of the years I counted every single calorie I weighed every single thing I measured, and I tracked it all on a daily basis. I crunch the numbers on a weekly and a monthly basis.
And here’s the thing…
You don’t need to do all that work right? I mean, that’s not fun. It really isn’t. But increasing your awareness is like once you kind of get your mindset around it, because what happens is you’re like, instead of seeing just spending all this time logging food and so forth, you you end up well, we all know the saying, “Ignorance is bliss.”
But it’s not, right. I mean, it’s bliss when it’s not painful, but a lot of the time, you have real problems, and there are real solutions that are available to you, if you’d simply look at them, honestly.
Right. So awareness, what it gives you is opportunities to make life better, so to increase your quality of life. And if you’re not paying attention, you’re going to miss stuff. It’s simple as that. If you’re not paying attention, you’re gonna miss things. And if you don’t have awareness, it’s it’s one of those issues where you have no choice Just going on autopilot.
And it’s always better to like at least have a choice. Sometimes you’ll keep on going the same way autopilot staking you. But if you have a choice to go another way, then you know you might be making an improvement. So awareness is huge and and if you just want to stick your head in the sand, nothing goods gonna happen nothing’s Good, good is gonna come with that.
So NEPA is another one of those things like a lot of people are like, Man, I’m doing NEPA . I’m going out for a walk every day for 30 minutes. I’m getting my time in or they’re on the treadmill and, and I think there’s nothing more depressing in life than staring at a wall or watching a TV show while on a treadmill.
I don’t do it. It’s it’s not for me. If you like that great if you love to get outside and go running or jogging. I mean, I did those things in the past that was a lot better. So like when I used to run. It was really fun. Getting out in the morning when I was already lean.
If you’re overweight and you’re running, it can hurt a lot.
But once you’re lean, then you have all this energy and it’s not too much stress on your joints. You know, go out give give running to try again. Because it’s good for you, and it can be fun like getting up in the morning having some fresh air. It’s great. But my problem was is I kind of stopped after I moved to Korea I’d lost a bunch of weight. And I didn’t know about the yellow sand that blew in from the deserts of China.
And so I’d get up at like four in the morning and I go for my run. And after a bit of this, you know, I’d been running for a couple years. I started coughing up blood every morning just like what the hell and again it was I didn’t know about the sand so I was like literally it was like breathing in glass particles and I was just coughing up blood every day and it’s because I was trying to make myself healthy, not knowing about an environmental pollutants that made me very, very sick.
But when it comes to NEPA, again it maybe it’s a drag going on a going on a walk every morning or something for you. So what we want to do is make NEPA fun, right not exercise, physical activity. How can we have fun moving? So if you enjoy something like disc golf or gardening, or whatever it is to you like what do you enjoy doing that’s physical with your body. So just find something that’s fun, and then get lean, having fun.
So hopefully this is a little helpful, you’re enjoying achieving, you can enjoy this stuff, or you can suffer through it. And if you’re suffering through it, you’re doing it wrong. You’re doing it wrong, don’t suffer through this crap. Make it work for you make it enjoyable, make it fun. And keep yourself motivated. Do it with friends, just find a way to make it fun. Find a way to make your life better doing these things.
Don’t just get through it. Okay, and if you’re having trouble with this, if it’s difficult to think of ways to have fun, improving your sleep training, awareness never dies, then that’s what the forums are for. That’s the coaching calls are for. That’s what the private coaching thread is for.
So talk to me about this.
If it’s a problem, let’s fix it.
Don’t just settle for it. Don’t just say, Nope, no answer exists. I’m done there. That’s a fixed mindset. Get out of the fixed mindsets get into the growth mindset.
Look for a way to enjoy achieving what others suffer to fail.
And we’ll talk more about where you’re at and how to get where you want to go. In the next video.
